Government Official Says Ministry of Defence Examining Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, with Staff Instructed to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense minister has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is actively looking into the potential security risks associated with Chinese-made vehicles, and personnel have been advised to avoid talking about secret matters in all cars.

Safety Guidance for Defence Staff

In a recently aired interview on a radio station, a defence minister commented on claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to talk about secret material while riding in China-made cars.

He stated that the ministry is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but noted that security is a concern in every modern cars.

Our department has a collection of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and those vehicles represent a very small number.
But whether you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting MoD technology into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a classified classification in any vehicle, because of the increasing risks of eavesdropping that are present in every single vehicle, to restrict those confidential talks in secure locations. This is a wise and reasonable thing for everyone concerned about security.

When it was suggested that it would be prudent for the ministry to cease using every Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: That is exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Security Background

The revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of dual-use kill switches in Chinese-made electric buses, which could enable China to disable buses and cause chaos to public transit.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship has been directing laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” act by defence officials.

The wider security situation underscores the significance of strong measures and vigilance in all areas of official activities, from vehicle use to discussions habits.
