Larian Studios Unveil a New Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The buzz around the recent awards show has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it pioneered the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
