Tetris Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a significant honors show approaches, you'll find an outcry for introducing fresh award types to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague previously argued for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and important of all. Here's the proposal: We need a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains a necessary evil for the industry of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. What category would fit them between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated completely that year
  • A different innovative game received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
  • Just some puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're small games, however the design behind logic titles is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for many years.

The famous puzzle experience competes with well-known building titles competing to become best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
